Choosing a Finger Support with an Aluminium Stay: Styles, Sizing, Fitting and Care

How to put it on

1. Open all the hook-and-loop straps first
2. Slide the support onto the finger, with the aluminium stay along the back of the finger
3. Fasten the straps one by one from the bottom up; it should feel snug, not tight
4. Move your wrist and other fingers to check nothing catches

How long to wear it

• The first time, try 20 to 30 minutes, then build up gradually as it feels comfortable
• If you wear it for longer stretches, take it off now and then to let your skin breathe
• If it gets in the way while typing or doing housework, take it off for a while

Take it off straight away if

• Your finger goes numb, white or purple
• The skin turns red, itches or breaks
• It feels more uncomfortable with it on than without

How to clean it

• Hand-wash gently with water or a mild detergent
• Take the removable aluminium stay out before washing
• Leave it to dry naturally, away from direct sun, tumble dryers and heat
